Dechante has recently been offered an exciting new role as a Research Assistant with the Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit (MLCSU) Strategy Unit.
Dechante said: “Being an Expert by Experience was my first role since graduating, and it has been an important part of my development. I’ve gained skills in evaluation, collaboration, communication, and got the chance to work with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds. This experience boosted my confidence and gave me a chance to put my knowledge into practice.”
With an academic background that includes a Neuroscience degree from the University of Exeter and a postgraduate research degree from the University of Birmingham specialising in neuroscience, mental health, and health policy, Dechante shared that the experience gained at Toucan “helped me stand out as an applicant”.

This transition highlights the valuable experience and skills gained through her work at Toucan.
Bob Maxfield, Coproduction Lead at Toucan, said: “Dechante contributed to lots of projects here at Toucan. Including thematic analysis, presenting feedback to senior staff members, as well as playing a key role in developing and scripting an AI video project to amplify young voices. The whole team here wish her all the very best in this well-deserved appointment.”
While stepping into their new position at MLCSU, Dechante will remain part of the Toucan team, continuing to contribute expertise and lived experience when possible.
